Life in glorious technicolour

Watch sports on the new LG 65-inch OLED TV and you'll feel like you're in the stadium. The movies are pretty good too

THIS YEAR turn your living room into a stunning movie theatre with the new LG 65-inch curved OLED TV EG960T.
The EG960T features an excellent OLED panel and display technology that results in impressive darkness, vibrant colours, fluid motion and very sharp 4K resolution of 3840x2160 pixels.
The arrival of EG960T makes OLED TV much more affordable. When the first 55-inch model with full HD resolution was introduced by LG, the price was more than Bt300,000. Now you can buy a 65-inch size TV with four times higher resolution than full HD but the price has dropped to about Bt200,000.
The level of blackness is essential for perfect viewing quality, especially for watching movies. LG boasts that the new curved OLED TV uses Perfect Black technology to provide perfect expression of black for dark scenes that are alive with better visibility and more vivid details.
The secret behind the success of this Perfect Black technology can be found in the OLED panel’s self-lighting pixels. The self-lighting technology allows each pixel to switch on and off individually, thus giving a beautiful contrast range of brightest whites and darkest blacks and pictures of an impressive depth.
The Perfect Black and self-lighting pixel technology help enhance picture realism and colours, making the colours look true to life. The TV uses LG’s 33 Mega Colour Pixels technology to deliver a 4K OLED picture. Those 33 Mega Colour Pixels mean the display’s 8.3 million pixels (4K) are multiplied thanks to a 4-colour pixel, making white, red, green and blue possible in every pixel for better picture quality.
For fast motion pictures, the EG960T uses Clear Motion technology with a very fast response to deliver blur-free and clarity for fast sports and fast movie scenes. LG says its Clear Motion technology allows the EG960T to display fast motion pictures 1,000 faster than the average television.
And its large curved screen can give you an immersive feeling when you sit in the middle close to the TV at an angle where your eyes are aligned with the edges of the TV. If you don’t care about the immersive viewing experience, sit anywhere and you’ll still enjoy the sharp and clear picture because the curved display allows you to enjoy perfect colours from any seat.
And the curved TV looks really sleek with its slimmest edge measuring a mere 5.3mm in thickness.
The EG960T runs on Smart TV webOS 2.0, which is intuitive to use. It comes with Magic Remote that functions like an air mouse as you navigate through the content and functions of the Smart TV. You can use a web browser to surf the Internet and you can download more apps, such as those for enjoying video on-demand services or watching IPTV as well as enjoying YouTube clips. The Smart TV functions are powered by a 1.1 GHz quad-core processor with 3 GB of memory.
The EG960T has a built-in Wi-Fi adapter, which I easily connected to my Linksys WRT1200AC router and had no problems using the online Smart TV functions.
The webOS 2.0 makes it simple to set up the TV for first use. It has built-in digital TV tuner in DVB-T2 format making it simple to tune in to all terrestrial digital TV channels. I switched to Thairath TV and other HD channels and found the picture sharp and beautiful.
The TV also comes with 8 GB internal storage for recording TV programmes. Three more USB2.0 ports are provided for connecting to flash drives or external hard drives.
The EG960T sounds great too thanks to a sound system is designed by harman/kardon, a popular high-end sound system band. The system features 2.0-channel speakers with 20 watts of audio output with an Ultra Surround function providing virtual immersive sound.
The EG960T has nine picture modes, including Cinema, Vivid, and Football. Among the six sound modes are Music, Cinema, Football, and Game.
I mostly tested the EG960T with TrueVisions's satellite set-top box, using the Cinema picture and sound modes to watch HD channels, such as HBO and Fox Premium, and they looked great with, as promised, very deep black.
I also enjoyed using Football picture mode and Football sound mode to watch UEFA Champions League. The large screen allowed me to see the players clearly and the fast motions were very fluid. The ambient sounds of the stadium sounded great.
And when I turned into the Spanish La Liga matches in HD, I felt like I was actually in the stadium thanks to the large display, beautiful pictures and high contrast.
The LG OLED TV EG960T retails for Bt199,990 and is worth every satang.
