Killed for speaking the truth

Re: “What I learned as Donald Trump’s media psychologist”, Opinion, March 3.

The volume of anti-Trump letters, comments and reports is increasing, so it’s time to put The Donald to rest.
In Thailand, if you wish to discredit a political foe, the thing to do is accuse him of lese majeste. Even if he doesn’t get arrested, his credibility is damaged. In the US, you accuse him of either being a racist, misogynist or homophobic. He won’t get arrested, but if the charge is repeated often enough, the damage is done. It is a fact that the US has absorbed far too many uneducated and broke Mexican immigrants and far too many single, male Muslims who are capable of being terrorists. Yet to say this makes one a racist.
I doubt very seriously that Trump will ever make it to the election, let alone the White House, because, unfortunately, he brings up subjects that are not polite to talk about, and the harpies are gathering. But at least he has said things that needed to be said and has illustrated that there are a lot of Americans who agree with him.
Should my analysis be incorrect and he runs a successful campaign in spite of all of the alarmist warnings, how bad can it get? We have had George W Bush, Barack Obama, the people are ready to put in Hillary, and Kanye West has announced his candidacy for 2020. I ask you, how much more damage than that line-up could Donald Trump do?
Much like Thailand, the American political scene has become a travelling dog-and-pony show, so why not have a slightly eccentric billionaire? At least, for once, we would get the truth.
