Don’t manipulate voters with a leading question

Re: “EC says additional referendum question is ‘too leading’”, Politics, April 9.

I fully agree with Election Commissioner Somchai Srisuthiyakorn when he says the question to be tacked onto the referendum on the draft charter should be neutral. Consider these versions:

1) In order to ensure continuity in the implementation of reform under the national strategy during the five-year transition period, do you agree that Parliament should be allowed, in a joint sitting, to select a prime minister? Should this be included in a provisional clause of the charter?
2) Should the junta be allowed to thwart the people’s will, as expressed through an elected government, by changing the draft charter to let the fully appointed Senate vote in selecting a prime minister?
3) Should the draft charter be changed to allow the Senate to vote in selecting a prime minister?
Asking leading questions fools nobody.
