History made as Europe gets first Muslim mayor

The victory of Labour Party lawmaker Sadiq Khan in London’s mayoral election last Sunday was a historic occasion, ushering in the first Muslim mayor of a major European capital.
The win should also be hailed for sending a strong message to those who spewed venom against the former human-rights lawyer during the campaign because of his faith. Londoners ignored the Islamophobia and proved that they vote with rational minds.
