Why Obama must not apologise for Hiroshima, Nagasaki

TUESDAY, MAY 24, 2016

With President Obama’s visit to Hiroshima this week it was inevitable that the bleeding-hearts brigade should come out in force with demands that he apologise for America dropping atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Fortunately, Obama has categoricall

My wife and I visited Hiroshima several years ago. Outside the museum a man had set up a stall with a petition calling on the United States not only to apologise but to pay reparations to Japan and the victims of the bombs. He asked me to sign.
I told him I would sign only when Japan issued unequivocal apologies for its actions in Manchuria, its rape of Nanking, its use of “comfort women”, its ghastly medical experiments on live prisoners, its treatment of prisoners of war, and its enslavement and subsequent deaths of hundreds of thousands of Asians, including Thais, to further its war effort.
Japan is still in a state of denial as to the extent of the atrocities it committed during this period, and until it owns up to its own culpability there can be no reconciliation or apologies.
