Proposal exposes rotten heart of Thai politics

Re: “Would revisiting Thaksin’s share case cleanse our souls?” Opinion, May 25.

Tulsathit Taptim was right to suggest that, while we might open a can of worms by revisiting the Constitutional Court case in which Thaksin Shinawatra was acquitted of concealing shares in defiance of the national conscience, it wouldn’t matter since the country is crawling with such creatures already.
If memory serves me correctly, Kanit na Nakorn, former head of the now-defunct Truth for Reconciliation Commission and the person who has proposed reopening the case, was a founding member of Thaksin’s first political party, Thai Rak Thai. Kanit quit the party soon after for some reason.
What I mean to say is this: Thaksin would never have thrived in politics if some of our country’s big fish had not supported him in a brain-sick manner in the first place.
Half of the citizenry, including myself, saw absolutely no good in him as our national leader right from the get-go.
