Parents need to be key in kids’ sex education

Parents need to be key in kids’ sex education

Re: “England shows how to curb teen pregnancies”, Editorial, June 1.

The decline in English teen pregnancies of 51 per cent in 16 years is “best practice” on how to improve the problem of teen mothers in developing countries including Thailand.
It is more proof that engaging in sex education openly and appropriately in western society can help solve teen pregnancies, not aggravate the problem.
It is absolutely necessary to start talk about sex education in each family, to show that love is how to save yourself. Teenagers learning about sex education from their families would be better than learning it from their friends. Because it is very possible that they may be trying to do improper things – not trying to restrain themselves from having sex.
Enhancing sex education through partners is indispensable. Because we need teachers or trainers who understand sex education truly and can lead teens to apply it properly.
What should not be overlooked that lifts teens understanding of sex education is awareness of the costs of the consequences of teens who focus only on the joy of sex.
Indeed, sex education is not an obscenity. Children and adolescents should be given the opportunity to learn it correctly according to their age, so that they can take care of themselves and not take that wrong step into sex premature and teen motherhood.
