If Nigel Pike wants his country back, then he should first realise that it was “given away” at some point in the past, notably by elected British politicians. Laws made in Brussels are made by all the countries that form the European Union, including Britain.
Asking if Thais would be prepared to have 75 per cent of their laws made by unelected, unsackable bureaucrats in KL or be happy with an Asian Supreme Court based in Phnom Penh striking down verdicts made by a Thai Supreme Court is only telling half the truth. British elected politicians and bureaucrats have always been involved in the decision-making at every level in the EU. Maybe they have been sleeping all that time.
The HEC University in Paris has a very informative, free online course on the workings of the EU, available on Coursera. I suggest Mr Pike take a look at it.
But the British, or should I say the English, were never really European-minded, and I for one would not shed a tear if they voted for Brexit. However, we would be very happy to welcome back Scotland into the EU after it has split from the UK.
