Submerged for lack of better drainage

Re: “Experts debate managing flood/drought crisis”, National, June 21.

About three months ago the city replaced all the water-drain covers on our soi. Amazingly they made the holes smaller and, where there used to be eight, there are now four to six. A child could have predicted what happened next. After yesterday’s rain our street had the worst flooding I’ve seen in 10 years.
Twenty-four hours later the water still hasn’t completely drained.
Making better drainage covers would seem a better solution than turning our streets into temporary water-storage areas.
Personally I have no faith in the water-management “specialists” when they are so incompetent at tackling the most basic issue to avoid flooding – water drainage from the streets.
