Navy needs to check its inventory
Play
The Navy does need new equipment, but I suggest that, instead of spending Bt36 billion on three submarines, our boys in blue buy something more useful - such as coastal patrol vessels.
The Gulf of Thailand is too shallow for subs, and if we base them in the Andaman Sea, who are we going to fight – India? Myanmar? Our military should go through its existing arsenal and see what can be sold off to partially finance any new equipment. For example, the Chakri Narubet is an aircraft carrier that’s been without aircraft for years, and in its 25 years of duty here it’s never sailed to even threaten an enemy. Why not trade it in for a coastal patrol vessel or some helicopters?
Give our military what they need to defend us, not toys for the boys.
