The 20-year-old who pinned a new chapter in the history book as the first Thai to win a Major title would stay in Bangkok for a week before representing Thailand in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
“After I won my first LPGA title, I wanted to win my first Major and I did it. I’m really happy,” said Ariya to several dozen of reporters and cameramen upon her arrival.
By winning the Major along with three previous LPGA titles earlier this year, Ariya rose to No 2 in the world this week behind world No 1 Lydia Ko of New Zealand. The two will be the strong favourites in the Games which starts Friday.
“I set a target to win an Olympic medal to make Thais happy. I also want to create good results for His Majesty the King,” she said.
“I also would like to thank the Prime Minister for his support,” added Ariya.
