Former IBF flyweight champion Ammat Ruenroeng became the first Thai fighter to go out of the boxing competition in the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games following his loss to France’s Sofiane Oumiha in lightweight class on Wednesday.

With three of five Thai boxers yet to begin their campaign in the sport where the Kingdom have good track record of success, the 36-year-old Amnat, though, was already sent packing by French rival, whose left hook stopped the last-16 bout in the third round.

The Chon Buri native, who picked up the sport while serving his prison sentence, hinted at becoming a coach as he pondered his retirement from the ring.
