Nirun pips Chawalit to win title

NIRUN SAE-UENG carded a solid 65 to beat Chawalit Plaphol by three strokes for the Bt3-million Singha SAT Championship at the par-72 6,563-yard Gassan Legacy Golf Club in Lamphun province yesterday.

Niran, from Nakhon Pathom, shot seven birdies in a bogey-free round to win his second Thailand PGA Tour title following an overall 28-under-par 260.
“I stuck to my game plan by hitting the fairways and the set myself up in good positions to shoot scores. I putted well all week which was the key,” said the 21-year-old.
“I’m so happy because this is my first win of the season. I’d also like to dedicate this win for my mother as yesterday was Mother’ s Day [August 12],” added Nirun.
The title in Lampoon was his third career title after winning his maiden Thailand PGA title at the Voyage Panorama Golf Course in Kao Yai in 2014 and the Asian Development Tour last year in Malaysia. He also earned the winner’s prize money of Bt435,000.
Chawalit fired his second straight 65 to settle at lone second with a 25-under-par 263 and took the runner’s-up cheque of Bt255,000. A stroke behind at joint third were Gunn Charoenchaikul and teenage Phachara Kongwatmai, both after the same final round of 65 and a total 264.
