Expat champion of the poor, or inverted snob?

Re: “Letters from wealthy Thais give false picture”, Letters, August 25.

Eric Bahrt writes that Thai elitists cannot be considered genuine Thais and instead holds up as heroes “the real poor people of Thailand” who have no time for writing letters. He also pours scorn on some expat letter-writers for looking down on Thai millennials as childlike and brain-dead.
Perhaps The Nation could invite readers to submit suggestions for which category of expat Mr Bahrt belongs to. “Inverted snob” is my submission.
I would also request that The Nation please continue publishing Eric’s letters, which are a great reminder of the level of intelligence of some Westerners.
