Indonesian singer Anggun takes her place in Madame Tussauds

INDONESIAN-BORN and French-naturalised singer-songwriter and World Music Award-winning vocalist Anggun was in town recently to unveil her brand new wax figure at Madame Tussauds Bangkok. The exciting new set, which shows the singer in her role as a judge for “Asia’s Got Talent”, saw Anggun’s many fans fly into Bangkok to meet their favourite artiste.
“Not only is Anggun a true talent and the world's most-renowned Indonesian-born personality, but her first international album was also released in 33 countries,” said Noppadon Prapimpunt, head of Bangkok Cluster, Merlin Entertainments (Thailand).
“Anggun is Asia’s best-selling female artiste outside Asia and boasts singles on Billboard charts in both Europe and America. Her recent role as one of the judges of ‘Asia’s Got Talent’ has made her one of the world’s most recognised people. Many Anggun’s fans and Madame Tussauds visitors have requested us to create her wax figure and it is our honour to have the real Anggun with us here today.”
The United Nations Goodwill Ambassador was happy to share the story behind the detailed sculpting process for her figure – whose dress and jewellery were created by designer Jean-Paul Gaultier in his workshop in the heart of Paris.
“When Madame Tussauds first reached out to me I thought they wanted me to sing at an event, but when I discovered that they would be making a wax figure of me, I was really surprised and delighted because Madame Tussauds has created some of the most famous people in the world. When I found out that this came about due to requests from my fans, I was flattered and honoured. I met the talented Madame Tussaud’s team in London and they measured my body and took more 350 photos of me. I was very impressed by the dedication, professionalism, as well as the high craftsmanship of the team,” said Anggun.
Anggun joins other Thai and Western celebrities including Oprah Winfrey, Naomi Campbell, Ann Thongprasom and Ken Theeradej in the realistic TV Room from today.
