Compact Sound Piece bluetooth speaker belies its size and packs a big punch
SOUND PIECE MINI, a portable Bluetooth speaker, has amazingly good quality despite its compact size.
As well, the speaker’s 2,200 mAh battery can also function as a power bank with a full-size USB port to charge your smartphone on the go.
With a footprint of only 165x72x70 mm and weight of only 400 grams, Sound Piece mini, by Happy Plugs of Sweden, will fit into a woman’s handbag.
It is available in white and there are 15 other differently coloured changeable grills available. Other colours include white marble, leopard, camouflage, pink, cerise, mint, and gold, which are all designed to suit your home decor.
Although the Bluetooth speaker is compact, it managed to fill my large living room with loud sound during a test with no distortion or vibration.
The speaker is made of two full-range drivers, each powered by a 2 watt amplifier, giving it 4 watts of output power, more than enough to envelop you with sound at close range.
It also generates bass response well with a bass vent for enhanced performance. The bass is not too deep and powerful but you can feel and enjoy rock music’s lower tones and guitar strings especially when streaming music.
During the test, I enjoyed playing rock music and the vocals and lead guitar sounds were very good as the speaker’s high and mid tones were very clear. Although the bass sounds were not exceptional, there was enough to allow me to enjoy rock music.
The Sound Piece mini supports Bluetooth 4.0 pairing. During the test, I connected it to Sony Xperia X Performance without any trouble. Streaming music from a smartphone resulted in pleasing music quality.
The unit is easy to operate. The on/off switch is at the back, along with a micro USB port for recharging the speaker’s internal battery, a full-size USB port for recharging your smartphone and a 3.5mm AUX for connecting to a portable MP3 player.
The power button is at the top along with volume controls and a Bluetooth button. The speaker can also be left in standby mode and a double-press of the power button will reset the Bluetooth connection. The Bluetooth button is also used to pair and unpair devices.
The speaker has a status LED light on its front. A solid blue light indicates a Bluetooth connection has been established while a blinking blue means it is ready to establish a connection with a new device.
The 2,200 mAh battery may not be much use as a power bank but it is handy. However, the 2,200 mAh battery is enough to stream music for up to 15 hours.
Sound Piece mini is distributed by Ash Asia and is available on its website www.ashop.asia for Bt3,990 as well as from Powerbuy, iStudio by Copperwired, B2S, Powerone, DNA and Another Story shops. The colour fabric grills retail for Bt590 each and a metal grill for Bt790.
