Thailand commences nine-day Vegetarian Festival

Across Thailand, the annual Vegetarian Festival will be celebrated over the next nine days.

The festival, which starts today, has Chinese origins and is held during the ninth lunar month of the Chinese calendar.
It involves the belief of cleansing the body and spirit through the consumption of vegetarian food and by making merit.
Small yellow flags mark the beginning of this spiritual retreat.
The clip shows Chinese-Thais living in the Taland Noi area of Chinatown, on Yaowarat Rd in Bangkok, on the eve of opening the festival with a big ceremony.
