The partnership was announced recently at a press conference and outlined the opportunities for Ascot students to try out and selection for the Tokyo Verdy Youth Academy. In addition, details of the recent exchange programme between Ascot and Tokyo Verdy coaches was outlined. The exchange took place at Ascot International School from the 9th until the 17th of October.
Tokyo Verdy is a Japanese professional football club, based in Tokyo, Japan, playing in the J2 League. Founded in 1969, Tokyo Verdy is one of the most decorated teams in the J. League, with honors including 7 J. League titles, 5 Emperor's Cup, 6 J. League Cups and an AFC Champions League title, and the most successful team in Japanese football history with 25 titles. Verdy plays its home games at the 50,000 capacity Ajinomoto Stadium in Tokyo. Tokyo Verdy is also famous for their youth development and youth academy.
Mr. Gary Booth-the Head Master stated that “we are very excited that we have entered into this relationship with Tokyo Verdy FC. It will undoubtedly raise the profile of football throughout the school and provide valuable opportunities for our students in the future. Participation in sports is strongly encouraged at Ascot International School and is built into our curriculum rather than added as an afterthought. Research and studies show that participation in sports leads to improved success in academic studies”.
Mr. Katsu Yamamoto, Team Development Manager Tokyo Verdy FC added that “We are very pleased having a partnership with Ascot International School, which is a long established International School in Thailand. This project will deepen friendship between Japan and Thailand through football and link our partnership with more global development of players and human resource.
Tokyo Verdy, the club was established in 1969 and has produced many players and coaches since then. We would like to share our experience and know-how with Ascot International School and also to work with them to improve the quality of football and cultural understanding of Thailand and Japan.
During this week, as part of this partnership, three coaches have been dispatched from Tokyo Verdy and been training/coaching players of Ascot International school for about a week. We hope that they can feel the training philosophy of Tokyo Verdy and also generate interest in Tokyo Verdy.”
Mr. Felipe Amaral, Ascot Football Academy - Head Coach also added that “This unique partnership will give our players plenty of great opportunities , such as; training with Tokyo Verdy FC Youth Academy coaches, playing tournaments in Japan against Tokyo Verdy FC Youth Academy and other Japanese teams, bringing Tokyo Verdy FC Youth Academy team to play in AFA's Tournaments in Thailand, a Football trip to visit Tokyo and to watch some matches and train with the Youth Academy. Most of all the opportunity to be scouted to play in Tokyo Verdy FC and try out in Japan to become a Tokyo Verdy FC player, is an amazing opportunity for our students. This partnership is not only good for AFA and Ascot, but also a very good for Football in Thailand.
