The real vote-riggers are hidden from view
Big, influential media sabotage democracy when they undermine the principle of “one man, one vote”. On the other hand, they serve democracy when they cover all political sides, question them critically and allow voters to choose.
When the media take sides, as we are now seeing in the US, they grant themselves an influence over the vote they are not entitled to in a true democracy. The same goes for big-money vested interests, through their lobbyists. These are the real election-riggers in pseudo-democracies worldwide. They get away with it because the media and their owners are among the culprits.
It’s time to tear down all the undemocratic “rigging” the rich and powerful have established as “normal” and legal, including their various forms of “vote-buying” and the many unfair and undemocratic regulations within parties and election systems (so-called super-delegates are a glaring example in the US).
The elite have achieved a semblance of calm and order around their misuse of power by operating under the umbrella of the untouchable system called democracy. Behind its “sacred” aura lie different forms of elitist
dictatorship which are kept concealed by willing and complicit media.
