Sympathy for US media

I sympathise with the American media for not accurately predicting the outcome of the presidential election. First of all they were basing their prediction on the polls which are usually accurate.
But more importantly the media assumed that the American people were too decent and kind to elect a racist, misogynist, animal hating sociopath who makes fun of handicapped people and wants to legalise torture. And it breaks my heart that the media turned out to be wrong in their assumption that America is a humane and good country.
