Marcos myth not closed with burial
The manner in which late dictator Ferdinand Marcos was buried in Manila’s Cemetery of Heroes was unsurprising. What can we expect from his widow and children? Nothing but lies and deception.
After all, Ferdinand Marcos lied about his war medals. He lied about the real reason for declaring martial law. Marcos deceived the people by proclaiming a “New Society”, which allowed him and his cronies to steal billions from public funds. He cheated at the presidential election in 1986 and had himself proclaimed anew as president.
And now this devious way in which he was buried by Imelda Marcos and her children in the Cemetery of Heroes. If the Marcoses think that the burial of the dictator is the end, if they think that unity will be achieved with his burial in ground preserved for the remains on national heroes, then they are dead wrong. Victims of martial law, human rights groups, church members, students and other decent, freedom-loving Filipinos will continue the quest for justice and the transfer of the dictator’s remains from the sacred soil they now desecrate.
