Somsak Pola was right to say the disciples of a Buddhist sect can collectively defy the law in order to protect their leader, in the same way that Suthep Thaugsuban and Sondhi Lumthongkul have done so recently.
The problem is that this sect has breached many of the precepts set out by the Lord Buddha. In short, it has turned un-Buddhist.
Worse, this sect has been accused of breaking the country’s laws by receiving millions of dollars in stolen money. It is has also been accused of being a tool of Thaksin Shinawatra, used by him to control the nation’s religious faith in order to make it easy for him to dictate the country from afar.
Hence, it is right that religiously conscious and law-abiding Thais call for the arrest of the sect’s leader.
