By harping on about irrelevant news, self-declared Trumpite JC Wilcox is making an unsophisticated attempt to deflect attention away from the White House incumbent’s pernicious and vicious assault on universally enshrined interpretations of basic decency and human rights. The president now presides over the unconstitutional violation of the good name of the United States.
Further, Wilcox appears to think that a “progressive democratic world order” is anathema. This is emphatically not reality. I recall a speech by a 1930s demagogue that openly held democracy and order in equal contempt, and the ultimate outcome of such venomous rhetoric was a ruinous war that took more than 50 million lives.
Order is an essential component of managing the global commons and is infinitely preferable to the selective assumption that Wilcox’s renegade views of “sovereignty” impart. This covers, for example, discriminating against the people of seven sovereign countries whose nationals have killed exactly zero Americans since 1975, yet appearing to welcome visitors from three democracy-averse Middle East sovereign states whose citizens have murdered more than 4,000 members of the US population over the same period.
Defending the indefensible is not a profitable enterprise, and one may be assured that further evidence of this will emerge as events unfold inside the Washington beltway.
