Dhammakaya and the middle path

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 23, 2017

Past governments made a grave mistake in allowing the Dhammakaya sect to build a temple on a site that covers the equivalent of 900 football pitches when a typical Buddhist temple would fit on two to four.

The temple’s unusually large “UFO-shaped” stupa also seems counter to the Buddha’s teaching that we should proceed by the “middle path” in everything we do. The Buddha never taught us to spread the religion in a grandiose manner.
Buddhists venerate the Lord Buddha’s precepts ahead of monks. Hence monks who are found to have breached those precepts are considered to have strayed from the faith even before they are officially defrocked.
