Mexican swaggers into Bangkok, vows to beat Nawaphon for world title

Mexican fighter Juan Hernandez arrived in Bangkok on Saturday morning, vowing to defeat Nawaphon Nakhonloung in their showdown for the vacant WBC flyweight title on March 4 at Nimibutr Stadium.

Surachart Pisitwuttinan, promotor of the No 1-ranked Nawaphon, welcomed the 29-year-old Mexican and his entourage at Suvarnabhumi Airport.

The No 2 challenger, with a record of 33 wins and two losses, showed no signs of concern in front of the waiting media ahead of the bout against the top-ranked home fighter.

“After thoroughly studying his fights with my staff, I have to say that he’s a dangerous opponent. However, I trained on a hill 3,000ft above sea level over the past month and had no fewer than 90 sparring bouts.

“So I’m quite confident I can beat him and take the belt back to Mexico,” Hernandez told reporters through a translator.

The Mexican is due to conduct  an open workout in front of the media on Monday at Nakhonloung Gym.
