Actor-singer Krissada Sukosol Clapp has just won his second Subhanahongsa Award for his role in “Khun Phan”, a triumph made all the more special knowing that it’s a troubling time for the film industry.
“I’m glad to win this,” he said. “It means I’ll be able to tell my kids in the future that I once won an award!”
Krissada knows that good roles are getting harder to come by at his age – movies nowadays tend to feature teenagers as the main characters. He said the folks making those films have approached him a few times, but he just doesn’t feel right for it.
So this year he’ll be refocusing on music again after a 12-year hiatus. He’s got 12 tunes in mind for an album that he’ll produce and arrange himself, although, since his Thai “isn’t good enough”, he’ll tap composer Boyd Kosiyabongse to help with the lyrics.
“At least I’m one of the singers from a certain era who still have their fans listening to their work, so this is something I can do for my fans,” Krissada says.
He’s of course still warmly remembered as a singer and the frontman for the band Pru, but he walked away from the business after it changed course and turned to movies instead. He’s no longer even sure how to go about releasing an album, he admitted, but will work with a marketing team once it’s finished.
“For me, working on music again feels like being a movie director – we have to spend a long time on every project,” he says. His big hope is that the album will have at least one hit track that everyone will love.
“I kept talking every year about a new album and it never happened. But this year it will happen for sure, maybe by the middle of the year or later in the year.
“Many of the songs I have in mind are kind of inspirational, and there’s one song I sing with my mother,” says Krissada, whose mum Kamala is also a famous singer, as well as a successful businesswoman.
