Free as a bird

Stacey Bendet’s spring summer 2017 collection for alice+olivia is set in the romantic mystic gardens of Bomarzo in Rome, where the power of interpretation wanders free.

Inspired by 18th-century tarot cards and the elements of the sun, moon, earth, air and fire, the collection represents the power of positivity and the ability to connect with one’s higher self. For Bendet, this collection balances a modern take on vintage Italian romance, with a touch of the strong, modern transcendent woman who roams the city’s streets.
Comprised of an eclectic mix of pieces and a sharp palette of colour amongst black, white and neutrals, Bendet has created a serene fantasy with a hint of darkness. Free as a bird
The collections’ foundation is built on the juxtaposition of ethereal silhouettes in bright hues with dark compliments. Rainbow tones include pink, poppy, green, indigo and violet, contrasted by graphic black and white stripes. Intricate details feature lace and embroidery, amid ribbon trims and some hints of 80’s inspired studs and gem embellishments. Beaded and printed birds by artist Elizabeth Graeber allude to the idea of letting oneself roam free while playing in the magical gardens.
Silhouettes range from classic embellished evening dresses, wide-leg trousers including gaucho shapes, patchwork and studded bombers, sexy one-shoulder cuts and “night out” tops, embroidered jackets, and jumpsuits that can be interpreted as a modern day gown.
Handbags range from tarot-card printed oversized leather clutches, large structured colour-blocked bowlers with brass detailing and wood combo box clutches. Bendet also debuts a playful assortment of eyewear this season including oversized cat eye, butterfly and 80’s inspired round frames.
alice+olivia is available at Central Embassy and Zen Department Store.
