Trendy tykes ready to rock the runway

Postponed from December, the sixth Siam Paragon Kids International Fashion Week finally gets underway this weekend in a gigantic dome at Parc Paragon.

Thai fashion creativity gets another boost in international recognition as Southeast Asia’s biggest kids fashion show puts some 700 child-models on “The World Iconic Kids Runway”.
“We’ve set a new record this year with more than 1,200 youngsters registered during the two days of auditions and 700 models have been selected to rock the runway,” says Chanisa Kaewruen of Siam Paragon.
“We’ll be presenting 14 talk-of-the-town shows by 19 kids-fashion labels. Prominent Thai designers including Hook’s, Tube Gallery, Rotsaniyom and LittleFox have joined forces in creating special collections with other locally and internationally celebrated labels.”
At a recent press preview called “Hook’s Presented by SCB”, designer Prapakas “Pakkard” Angsusingha showed an “I z Superstars” concept bearing influences from Madonna and David Bowie to Marilyn Monroe. Playful design met smart tailoring in a lively line based on self-identity. Textured fabrics and graphic patterns danced cheerfully with a creative use of colours.
In “Tube Gallery presented by True”, designer duo Phisit Jongnarangsin and Saksit Pisalasupongs drummed up the excitement level with a “Tokyo Garden” ladies’ line and “TG Robocat” for men.
Tokyo Garden draws on the beauty and vivid hues of Japan’s spring blossoms and the elegance of its flower-arranging art form known as ikebana.
Irises, cherry blossoms, hydrangeas and little bonsai trees found their way into embroideries and prints on mesh fabrics amid coloured thread.
TG Robocat takes men back to the nostalgic era of Japanese comic heroes and toys like Astro Boy, Robocon and Gundum.
Making its debut on the kids fashion catwalk, Rotsaniyom will be showing a “Fleur” collection full of delicate floral petals. Founders-designers Pongsak Kobrattanasuk and Thita Kamonetsawat take their cues from the flower girls who lead wedding processions, scattering petals along the bridal path.
LittleFox is relatively new on the kids’ clothing scene. Sitamon “Peach” Pholdee, wife of actor Jesdaporn, is a fashion-designer mum doing great things with her “Moonlight Kingdom” collection. It evokes an adventurous night safari in glorious colours and diverse prints, materials and shapes.
