“Sandome no Satsujin” (“The Third Murder”) starring Masaharu Fukuyama and Yakusho Koji, is a psychological courtroom drama centred on elite result-oriented lawyer Shigemori (Fukuyama) who is the assigned counsel for murder suspect Mikuma (Yakusho). Tried for murder 30 years earlier, Mikuma has confessed to killing the factory boss who fired him and faces a possible death sentence. The case seems to be a fait accompli but Shigemori has doubts about Mikuma's confession and his motives, and tries to undercover the truth.
This is Fukuyama’s second film with the director. The two previously worked together on the family drama “Like Father, Like Son”.
The film also stars Hirose Suzu, who played in Kore-eda’s “Our Little Sister”, as the victim's daughter who holds the key to the story.
The film is set to open in Japan on September 9. No date for the Thailand release has yet been set.
