Junta using rubber gloves to mop up an oil spill

SATURDAY, MAY 27, 2017

As expected, the self-appointed Thai government is shooting itself in both feet.

Military top brass – by dint of having more weapons at their command than anyone else in society – took power once again three years’ ago. They promptly swapped their medal-encrusted jackets for business suits, as if that suddenly made them fit to govern. (Note: a mere change of clothes does not make a person wise.)
The clandestine purchase of unneeded expensive subs was bad enough, but now they want to micro-manage what people see on the Internet.  What’s next? The kind of thought-control we see in North Korea?
What the not-so-sage-like men in charge of the government can’t seem to fathom is that the more they try to stifle something, the more they inadvertently spread it around. It’s like trying to mop up an oil spill on a tile floor, using only rubber gloves.
