So strong, so natural

So strong, so natural

The most abundant protein in our bodies, collagen is found in muscles, bones, skin, blood vessels, digestive system and tendons.

Widely used in cosmetics and supplements, the protein is now making a splash on the textile and clothing industry as an alternative fibre.

The new technology has been widely adopted in South Korea where collagen fibre is being woven into a variety of clothing including socks, scarves, T-shirts and innerwear. It is also being used extensively by knitwear brand NNA.

In Taiwan, manufacturers are using collagen fibre in jeans and working hard to extend its reach to other items of clothing. Making outfits from collagen fibres, the experts say, is beneficial as it can protect the skin from sunlight, eliminate odours and maintain moisture.

In Thailand, many popular brands are interested in bringing collagen fibre to sportswear, pyjamas, towel, T-shirts, socks, inner wear and bed sheet. Among the textile companies working on it is GEP Spinning company, the proprietary distributor of Filagen.
