Yale University’s world famous a cappella singing group The Whiffenpoofs are returning to Bangkok and will be performing at The Sukosol Hotels on August 3 and 4.

The Whiffenpoofs is one of Yale’ s most celebrated and hallowed traditions, maintaining a performance schedule of over 200 concerts annually in addition to recording an album and embarking on a three-month world tour. In recent years, the Whiffenpoofs have performed for the likes of presidents Obama, Clinton and the Dalai Lama, in venues such as Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Centre, and the Rose Bowl, and for events and programmes such as the World Series, “Saturday Night Live” and Fox’s “Glee”. Every year, 14 talented Yale men are selected to join The Whiffenpoofs , the world’s oldest and best-known collegiate a cappella group.

Founded in 1909, “The Whiffs” began as a senior quartet that met for weekly concerts at Mory’s Temple Bar, the famous Yale Tavern. The Whiffenpoof Song, the group’s signature ballad, gained nationwide recognition when Rudy Vallee recorded a solo version in 1937. The song would later become one of the popular tunes of World War II. Later on, Louis Armstrong, Elvis Presley, and many other artists followed suit with their own recordings.

The Whiffenpoofs will start their performance in Bangkok on August 3 at the Opium Den, The Siam Hotel at 7.15pm.

The price is Bt1,200 and includes one hour of free-flow cocktails and canapes. The show starts at 6 and then guests can then enjoy Thai cuisine at Chon Restaurant with a 15-per-cent discount.
