Our heritage in trees

The Culture Ministry’s Department of Cultural Promoton recently introduced its newest publication, “Rukha Moradok Khong Paendin Tai Rom Phra Baramee” to mark His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn's 65th birthday anniversary.

“This book celebrates His Majesty’s birthday and demonstrates that the King of Thailand is the centre of love and faith. The Monarchy can be symbolised by a big tree that brings peace of mind. We have chosen 65 giant trees that will inspire people to give precedence to environmental conservation. Each of these trees has a cultural story that reflects belief and faith and is the pride of those who care for it. Our aim is to inspire Thais to love and cherish our natural heritage as well as encourage them to plant new trees,” said Cultural Minister Veera Rojpojanarat.
The book, the title of which translates “Trees, Cultural Heritage under HM the King’s Graciousness”, tells the history of the 65 trees and provides knowledge on the botanical features of each region illustrated by beautiful pictures.
“I expect this book to be inspire readers to take care of the environment. It will cultivate a love for trees and nature in children and youth and will also serve as a useful resources for tourists,” Veera added.
After the launch, the minister presented 116 honorable shields to people, organisations and communities who take care of their valuable trees. The presentations were followed by a seminar led by Dr Sanit Aksornkoae, president of the International Society for Mangrove Ecosystems, Hieng Chaopa, who conserves giant treesm and Worachet “Chet” Ampia of Smile Buffalo.
