Trump is cruising towards a second term

Dr Frank is right to remind us that the biggest purveyor of fake news is the pathetic US president, whose conspiracy-addicted disciples are driven to using a telescope on their blind eye.
But don’t fool yourself. The Trump base holds firm, as do the vast majority of Republicans in the House and the Senate. Impeachment is not in the frame. So, if Trump can keep on fuelling economic growth, as presently typified by a booming stock market and mega-investment, he could cruise to a second term in 2020.
Americans with bills to pay won’t be voting then on his failure to jail Hillary Clinton or to build a wall, still less on whether he is a political ignoramus who has a track record of touching up women and flaunting racism. They will vote, as most people tend to do in a democracy, on the actual or anticipated thickness of 

their wallets. The most likely way to bring down showman Trump would be a full-scale economic slump. Or a nuclear war will do nicely.
