Lots of ‘khon dee’, but none of them in uniform

Lots of ‘khon dee’, but none of them in uniform

Re: “Less hostility, better healthcare”, Nation editorial, yesterday.

This is a government whose top spending priority is the procurement of military hardware. All those who cheered the end of elections three years ago need to look in the mirror; this is what you helped bring about.
All those who spend their time disparaging elected politicians need to look in the mirror; as bad as they can be, they are better than military people unchecked.
All those people who said they wanted “Khon Dee” to take control of the government three years ago need to look in the mirror; this is what you fought for.
I hope you are proud. The next time you or a loved one goes to a hospital for dialysis, an X-ray or heart test, and it is not available, you can take comfort in the fact that at least Thailand has submarines.

But then the coup would have been a waste of time. Military toys are far more important than improving living standards, infrastructure, education or healthcare. The military are like spoilt little brats and must get everything they want, when they want it. Just look at the aircraft carrier they wanted so badly: they don’t even play with it.

Toon Bodyslam “has only one intention, he says, and that’s to help the hospitals, not engage in political argument. ‘I prefer doing more than talking.’”
Inspiring to see there are still some Thais who are willing to sacrifice themselves for the greater good of the country. Student activists who stand up (literally) for a different opinion, a singer running across the country for hospital funding, and a female lawyer getting an international award for standing up for justice. There are many more examples.
Wouldn’t it be great if these kinds of people could join hands, win the trust of the population, and ask to represent them in managing the country, instead of Army men only interested in military toys, power and money, or politicians only interested in power and money? Aren’t these people not the real “good people”? The ones that actually do good instead of grabbing power and calling themselves the “good people”?
