No gun should be sold without a gun-licence check

Once again the letters page is graced by the warped views of Mr JC Wilcox. The Second Amendment clearly relates to well-regulated militias – the US citizens of that time being averse to a standing army. The subsequent Supreme Court interpretations have brought about the lunatic situation that prevails today.
There is a great need to tighten up the laws concerning gun control in the United States beginning with each state. No gun should be sold by private treaty without a gun-licence check, for example. The US needs to catch up with the rest of the civilised world.
