Why has President Trump accepted Russia’s denial?

Re: “Have anti-Trump readers been fooled by a news conspiracy?”, Have Your Say, yesterday.

Allegations of Russian attempts to influence the US presidential election are mounting, but are as yet unproven. However, it has now been revealed that, in the run up to last year’s “Brexit” vote in the UK, around 45,000 tweets, which sought to sow division and discord in Britain on a variety of issues by spreading fake and misleading news, emanated from over 400 Twitter accounts linked to the Russian government. Furthermore, this summer several attempts were made by Russian sources to hack into the National Grid, the operator of Britain’s electricity network.
After discussions between presidents Trump and Putin at the G20 summit held in Hamburg in July, Russia’s foreign minister claimed that Trump had accepted Putin’s denial that there had been any attempt by Russia to influence the outcome of the presidential election. The White House did not dispute the foreign minister’s claim. Well, good luck to all you Trump admirers – for all our sakes I hope your hero knows what he is doing. Vladimir Putin certainly does.
