‘New Mandela’ offers hope for broken South Africa
Many South Africans are rejoicing at the election of Cyril Ramaphosa as leader of the ruling ANC on Monday.
He defeated Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, the ex-wife of President Zuma, who had backed her campaign in an effort to protect himself from future prosecution.
Many years ago, the mining firm I managed supplied building materials to Cyril Ramaphosa to renovate his home. I can vouch for the fact that the new ANC chief is a fine gentleman and a person of integrity. He is also a born leader, with a wonderful temperament and a sharp intellect.
Zuma has lost control of the ANC and could now be ousted as the country’s president.
The end of his scandal-hit rule can’t come soon enough.
His legacy of corruption, which includes inviting the infamous Gupta family to capture state resources, has left South Africa’s economy in tatters and the country in a shambles.
