Racist bigots have become more sophisticated

They just don’t make bigots the way they used to. When I was growing up bigots were honest folks who frequently used the N-word, sometimes even in front of black people.
Today the bigots are much more subtle. So Nigel Pike will write a letter to this newspaper praising the fascist group Britain First while denying he wants to ban Islam in the UK. But as Dr Frank noted in a follow-up letter, banning Islam is exactly what Britain First stands for.
Or Pike will praise a speech by Donald Trump while failing to note that in the speech Trump called white supremacists “fine people”.
But be warned, Mr Pike: While the bigots are more sophisticated than ever, we decent folks weren’t born yesterday either. We’re onto you.
