Re: “Savouring the words of Dr Frank”, Have Your Say, December 23.

Ye Olde Pedant is too, too kind in his effusive praise. The compliment is returned, in spades. Ah, would that I were equally blessed.
Concerning “rantallian”; well, how can I put this diplomatically? Rantallian (sic) is an old Victorian word and quite moribund now, and was used pejoratively in an occasionally comic sense. The correct expression however is “rantallion” and deliberately misspelt as sometimes taste has to be a bit evasive in order to get an airing.  When used, it makes perfect sense in the context of Nigel Pike’s indirect wish to physically bifurcate certain bodily assets I possess. As the Pedant has correctly deduced, the word is negatively charged and, in my modest opinion, wholly warranted when referring to Pikey.
I also agree with him that, with due regard to the estimable Mr Nigel “let’s move on” Pike, my prose is usually couched in archly polemical terms. As regular readers will know by now, this arrangement is entirely reciprocal and was in response to Pike’s invective that set the parameters of this tit-for-tat imbroglio. Conversely, if you’re polite to me, the sentiment will be returned, simple as that. This naturally applies to the decidedly odd JC Wilcox – and alter egos, of course.
One must also look at the openly racist chauvinism of the dispeptic Pike’s letters. As I have stated before this kind of iniquitous extremism must be challenged, and I for one will continue to do so when it emerges again. I call it as I see it.
Merry bleedin’ Christmas from a chilly northern England, replete with brooding gunmetal skies.
