Americans deserve better than Trump
US President Donald Trump showed his impulsiveness to the extreme during a meeting with Congressional leaders in which he rejected a bipartisan deal on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) when he blurted out, “Why are we having all these people from sh*thole countries come here?”
Within 24 hours, angry reactions came in from all over the globe. The New York Post reported that US ambassador to Panama, John Feeley, declared his resignation, telling the State Department he could no long serve under President Trump.
Condemnations poured in from across the globe – from countries and international institutions, including the UN – calling Mr Trump’s remark “racist”. On top of that, former US vice president Joe Biden (Democrat) commented: “It’s not how a president should speak or behave. Most of all, it’s not what a president should believe. We’re better than this.”
Trump seems to have drastically lowered the bar on the part of American dignity and respectability that former US presidents have religiously maintained for the entire course of US history – to an unprecedented level.
Indeed, Americans deserve better than this.
