Switching to the animals’ point of view

Whenever I follow the seemingly endless arguments about killing animals for food, I feel that one very relevant factor is overlooked.
I refer to the fact that the animals that we consume would not experience life at all if they were not bred for our consumption, which I would have thought raises the somewhat vexing philosophical question of whether it is preferable for them to savour life in order to be eventually eaten or never to exist at all!
Unfortunately, the affected are manifestly unable to let us know their preference.
