Russia could prove its boasts with a nuclear shoot-out

A brief review of Russian nuclear boasts down the years would read as follows:

“We will bury you.” – Nikita Khrushchev, November 1956
“I can destroy the USA in 30 minutes or less.” – Vladimir Putin, December 2011
Putin, March 2018: Presents a video montage of a hypersonic weapon “that cannot be stopped”, shown heading for the United States (Florida).
What better way to test these awesome claims than to have a nuclear-missile shootout? Of course, to minimise collateral damage the warheads should first be removed.
I suggest that each side launches three to five ICBMs to remote areas of each other’s country – perhaps distant, uninhabited islands in the Atlantic, Pacific or Arctic oceans.
To simulate a nuclear attack, neither country is told its targets until an hour before the launch. The missiles’ empty warheads could be filled with red powder so as to mark how close each one landed to its programmed coordinates. (Military aircraft routinely use this procedure for bomb practice.)
It would take some organising but could be done – and the TV ratings would be huge!
To REALLY make things interesting, one or two nukes could be launched from submarines.
(For what it’s worth, I think the result would show Putin is way out of his league.)
