Catholicism has failed to move with times on animal rights

As a Catholic child I was taught that the Eucharist was the body and blood of Jesus. I now view that teaching as false. After all, is it really feasible that a man would have the power to turn bread and wine into human flesh and blood?

But if this teaching is false, what about the other Catholic teachings – those concerning animals? According to the Catholic Catechism it is legitimate to use animals for food and clothing, to help man in his work and leisure and for medical and scientific experimentation.
Now that we are in the 21st century and aware that we are all animals and that there is nothing “special” about humans – apart from the fact that we are a bit smarter – isn’t it time for the Catholic Church to review its teachings?
