Need a more spiritual outlook on life

“A Bangkok Atheist” says that, if it wasn’t for religion, people wouldn’t tell us what to eat and wear. Yet as a self-described agnostic it should be obvious that when I use the word God, I’m doing so metaphorically.
Actually, it’s been my observation that religious people for the most part have used religion to justify the persecution of humans and animals, not to eliminate it. But if “Bangkok Atheist” is so cold and callous that he regards any concern for the suffering of others to be an imposition, then maybe he would benefit from taking a more spiritual outlook on life.
