China’s bold plan for outer space

Re: “US move to militarise outer space vicious”, What Others Say, Nation, June 24.

The professor from China's Zhnongnan University constructs an anti-American argument with little of substance to back it up while conflating a claim that China is supposedly taking measures that will, “ensure outerspace remains the common property of humankind”.
I can only assume the good professor is using the same exquisite two-faced approach as shown by China in seizing mid-ocean reefs and then, having signed an agreement with Asean not to build on or modify them, turned those same reefs into militarised island fortresses which are now being used threateningly to control world sea lanes as well as billions of dollars of humanity’s natural resources.
The Outer Space Treaty that the professor suggests should be “revised by the UN to plug loopholes and prevent military activities ... to ensure no claims are made to outer space or celestial bodies” is obviously the most disingenuous of suggestions.
After all, China has shown us a country can arrogantly ignore any agreement, treaty, the UN or the  Hague International Court with impunity. Especially when it involves military bases or facilities.
