Imagining a world without American influence

Re: “Globe heaves a sigh of relief as world’s policeman steps down”, Have Your Say.

Chris Garnett assumes that because I express admiration for US foreign policy, I must be American. No so. I am actually a South African who grew up in a Dutch-speaking home. Many countries are extremely grateful for US intervention, since without it Europe could easily be part of Nazi German territory today. Meanwhile the Philippines and large parts of Asia would have succumbed to the racial supremacist rue of the imperial Japanese. There would also be no South Korea, which would be part of the totalitarian regime we now know as North Korea. The US has made many mistakes, but I for one don’t want to live in a world ruled by the thuggish Vladimir Putin or the communist Chinese.
