What would life be without imagination?

Re: “The fictitious Mrs Constance Beasley”, Have Your Say, October 26

If Michel Muscadier took offence at Constance’s philosophical commentary on Khashoggi’s murder, I am rather surprised he didn’t go ballistic following Stephff”s lurid and bloody cartoons of the event.
He should also note that The Nation lumps our “Have Your Say” essays together with the cartoons for a very good reason. And by the way Michel, Constance’s last name is not “Beasley”, its “(Mrs)”.
Muscadier may be right to regard the Beasleys and Allah as “imaginary figments”, but what a dull world it would be without supernatural beings such as Allah, the Beasleys, the Tooth Fairy, Ronald McDonald and Dr Frank to brighten our day. They spout forth, they pontificate (just look at the Koran or Dr Frank’s latest blusterings), and sensible people will smile sympathetically but not take a blind bit of notice.
Only two months to go and they will be joined by Father Christmas. I can’t wait.
