By joining election, political parties will legitimise junta rule

Re: “Pall of doubt settles over Election Commission”, Nation editorial, November 21.

The editorial states that, “An election should be in the interest of the nation, not for the narrow benefit of an elite group desperate to perpetuate their rule.”
True.
There comes a time where the political parties need to decide if they are going to play along with this charade (many feel that the time has already passed) or move towards boycotting an unfair process. My view has been to leave that decision to the parties since they likely know best, but it is getting harder and harder to see why the parties are continuing to participate.
Political parties, if you participate, then you can’t complain later. And, allowing the junta to achieve some kind of legitimacy would be the absolute worst thing you could do to beloved Thailand.
Political parties really, really need to have a long look in the mirror.
