The No 2 of a military coup that cited rampant corruption as a reason to take over government has to be seen to be squeaky clean and honest to have credibility. The open flaunting of US$1.5-million worth of watches does not fit that scenario. The complete lack of desire by the national anti-corruption agency to properly investigate and announce a decision just compounds the problem. A thorough investigation might even have discovered far greater deceit.
